Engagé·es dans le mouvement féministe depuis de nombreuses années, nous, féministes brittophones LGBTI+, avons été confronté·es à un problème rencontré dans les langues minoritaires en général : le manque de vocabulaire dans les domaines du féminisme et des minorités de genre en breton. Malheureusement, nous manquons de mots pour faire vivre la langue et pour parler des enjeux de la société contemporaine en langue bretonne. Il nous semble donc important et urgent de proposer un lexique qui contienne le vocabulaire féministe et LGBTI+ de base.

C'est pourquoi nous avons souhaité créer des outils qui serviront à toustes celleux qui souhaitent parler de féminisme (et plus) en breton. Nous avons choisi de classer les mots en sept catégories : idéntités, politique, juridique et violences, corps et santé, émotions, pratiques, matériel. Nous proposons aussi une page sur l'usage de termes épicènes et inclusifs. Vous pouvez également nous suggérer des mots.

How do you say “patriarchy”, “intersectionality”, “heteronormativity”, “cisgender”, “empowerment” or “clitoris” in Breton?

Having been involved in the feminist movement for many years, we LGBTI+ Breton-speaking feminists have been confronted with a problem encountered in minority languages in general : the lack of vocabulary in the fields of feminism and gender minorities in Breton. Unfortunately, we don't have enough words to bring the language to life and to talk about the issues facing contemporary society in Breton. It therefore seems important and urgent to us to propose a lexicon containing basic feminist and LGBTI+ vocabulary.

That's why we've come up with a set of tools to help anyone who wants to talk about feminism (and more) in Breton. We've divided the words into seven categories: identities, politics, law and violence, body and health, emotions, practices and material. We've also included a page on the use of epicene and inclusive terms. You can also suggest words.

Nous sommes quatre et nous sommes rencontré·es, pour la plupart d'entre nous, au sein du groupe féministe Gast. Ce groupe n'existe plus, mais grâce à Difenn, Flux et au soutien de ar Redadeg, nous avons pu nous organiser pour mener ce projet à son terme, bénévolement.

There are four of us, most of whom met in the feminist group Gast. This group no longer exists, but thanks to Difenn, Flux and the support of ar Redadeg, we've been able to organize ourselves to bring this project to fruition, voluntarily.

Qu'est-ce qu'une Aerlin ? C'est un animal mythique, mentionné dans une vieille histoire recueillie par Fañch an Uhel. Elle ressemble à la fois à un serpent, un dragon et une licorne ! Le monde féministe et LGBTI+ a déjà le symbole de la licorne : un animal mythique qui représente la liberté. Nous sommes Breton·nes et cette part de nous est importante : avec Aerlin, nous avons trouvé notre symbole !

What is an Aerlin ? It's a mythical animal, mentioned in an old story collected by Fañch an Uhel. She looks like a snake, a dragon and a unicorn all in one! The feminist and LGBTI+ world already has the symbol of the unicorn : a mythical animal that represents freedom. We're Breton and this part of us is important to us : with the Aerlin, we've found our symbol !
